When you are in Alcudia on holiday you simply must visit Formentor. In general terms it is located beyond Puerto Pollensa and then a twenty minute bus or car journey from there, up the mountain and down the other side.
Formentor sits in the bay at the far side of the mountain. There are various methods of travelling there and back. Check the bus timetable and you will find that there are several public service buses which you will be able to board in Alcudia.
Buses are not expensive to use. A few euros will take you there. The bus then travels through Puerto Pollensa, along the Formentor Road and up and over the mountain.
The bends are very tight and the road steep, which makes the journey fabulous and unforgettable. The trip is very worthwhile, even simply for the experience of being on the bus as it climbs the mountain and speeds down the other side.
The bus journey is so good that you may even want to repeat it some other time. Formentor is very small, the main attraction being the wonderful inviting beach and the expensive–Formentor Hotel which over the years has been visited by numerous film stars, politicians and celebrities.
The other attraction is visiting the–lighthouse. The sensible way of reaching the lighthouse is by car, as it is a ten minute almost vertical climb from a slip road adjacent to the coach park.
Your return journey to Alcudia is either again by bus, or you could travel on the catamaran boat from Formentor back to Puerto Pollensa Marina.
The boat trip takes about half and hour to reach Puerto Pollensa and although the journey is more expensive than the bus, the sail is well worth the additional cost.
You are sure to enjoy a visit to Formentor try it.
